ANDY Farrell has resigned from his post of head coach at Saracens.

The club confirmed the news on Friday morning.

In a statement, the club said: “Saracens can confirm that Kevin Sorrell has been appointed as Saracens backs coach following Andy Farrell’s surprise resignation.”

It is thought Farrell will now link up with the England backroom staff.

He had turned down an approach from the RFU in April to commit to Saracens.

Saracens chariman Nigel Wray said: “We are sorry to see Andy leave, and we wish him well in the future.

“Kevin is making a swift transition from outstanding player to outstanding coach. We are delighted he’s agreed to take the post.”

Farrell initially joined England on secondment during the RBS Six Nations - and made a big impression working alongside head coach Stuart Lancaster and assistant Graham Rowntree.

Farrell, though, had stated at the time that he was staying with Saracens “as a club, we have barely scratched the surface of our potential. The job isn’t anywhere near half done, and I have decided I want to help finish the job”.
