WIGAN will open their next Super League campaign with a trip to Salford.
Shaun Wane’s men will travel to the City of Salford Stadium on the weekend of February 1.
And they will follow it up with an explosive home encounter a week later – at home to beaten Grand Finalists Warrington Wolves.
That DW Stadium showdown promises to be an exciting encounter – the near-neighbours have occupied the top-two spots at the end of the last two campaigns, and won a Challenge Cup each.
Next year’s opening two fixtures were revealed yesterday as a teaser to the release of the full, 27-round fixture list on Monday.
Kick-off times and dates weren’t announced when all 14 clubs took to Twitter to inform their followers of their opening home match.
Champions Leeds’ encounter against Hull FC would appear an obvious choice for one of the two television slots.
Meanwhile, Wane yesterday spoke of his delight that Sean O’Loughlin will be joining the club’s coaching staff when he hangs up his boots.
The link-up was revealed when the loose forward’s new deal was announced earlier this week.
Wane said: “Sometimes you notice in players a certain characteristic that makes you think they’ll be good coaches.
“It was the same in Paul Deacon, and I see it in Sean – he knows the game, he’s meticulous with his preparations and he has a composure about him.
“I already use him a lot, I run ideas past him, and I value his opinions – I’m glad his future is sorted and we know he’ll be at the club long after he finishes playing.”
