The 29-year-old has signed a new three-year deal that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2021 season.

A Grand Final winner with Wigan in his debut season, Isa also played in the 2017 Challenge Cup Final. So far he has played 71 games for Wigan scoring six tries.

Warriors executive director Kris Radlinski said he fits “perfectly in our culture”.

“He is the best player I’ve seen in the community for 20 years and has recently taken on a role with the scholarship players at the club,” said Wigan legend Radlinski.

“He is a great role model for youngsters who are looking to make their way in professional sport.”

Coach Shaun Wane described Isa as “one of our best signings.”

His attitude, competitive nature and genuine toughness make him an outstanding team player who is loved by everyone at the club,” said Wane.

“The time he gives up for our young players is invaluable and proves what a great bloke he is.”

Earlier this week, Wigan agreed an improved deal with winger Liam Marshall, and they are also in talks with their off-contract players.

Ryan Sutton and Oliver Gildart are free to leave at the end of the year – both have admitted they may try and crack the NRL.

John Bateman has another year on his contract, but he has a clause allowing him to move Down Under if a set, undisclosed transfer fee is paid.

French forward Romain Navarrete is also out-of-contract, as well as Sam Tomkins, who is set to depart for Catalans at the end of the year.

Decisions on the futures of Sean O’Loughlin and Thomas Leuluai, who have agreed coaching roles when they retire from playing, need to be made.

Isa, born in New Zealand but raised in Australia, played in the NRL with Penrith and Melbourne before moving to Super League with Castleford.

He then joined Widnes, where he moved from the outside backs to the pack – and came to Wigan’s attention, joining ahead of the title-winning 2016 campaign.

“Firstly, I thank God. Secondly, my parents, sisters, brothers and to my partner Gemma, thank you for your continued love and support,” he said.
