FANS won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on the new Wigan shirt.

Replicas are a popular Christmas gift and the delay in revealing the new designs – when their Super League rivals have unveiled their 2016 strips – has left some fans frustrated.

Now, with little more than three weeks to go until Christmas, chairman Ian Lenagan has reassured supporters the new tops will be on sale soon.

Lenagan didn’t give a reason for the delay, but Wigan say they plan to release more details this week.

In recent years Warriors have opted for more radical home strip designs every third season – in 2011 (‘the pink shirt’) and 2014 (spiralled hoops) – suggesting the new shirt will have a more traditional feel.

Meanwhile, Shaun Wane has invited players from Wigan’s academy to train alongside his senior squad this week.

Members of the Under-19s and a selection of U16s will be joining in with first-team conditioning sessions.

“Training together reinforces the habits and the culture we have here,” said Wane.

“And it shows the younger players what they need to do to improve and how hard they need to work to get to the next level.”

They trained at wind-swept Formby beach on Saturday and this week they will undergo punishing hill-running session.

“It’s an important spell for us,” added Wane. “The players understand it’s a great chance to get some real gains.”
