DOM Manfredi is aiming to muscle into the Warriors side – after bulking up during the off-season.

The winger has strengthened his body with regular weights sessions.

And he hopes his hard work in training will pay off in 2015 and help him add to the 14 appearances he managed last term.

He said: “I’ve put a bit of weight on.

“I want to get pre-season out the way, get as fit as I can, and as big as I can, and see what happens.” Manfredi would appear to be the third-choice winger behind Josh Charnley and Joe Burgess, who both toured Down Under with England in the autumn.

But Shaun Wane is a huge admirer of the 21-year-old and was pleased with his form last season, when he managed 11 tries.

Manfredi is currently with his team-mates at a pre-season training camp in Florida.

The former Leigh amateur admits he may need to be patient as he waits for an opening in the team – but is knuckling down to try and give himself every chance.

“I didn’t expect to play half as many games last season, so every game was a bonus,” he said.

“I just want to bring it into next year and try and do it again.

“You just have to wait for an opportunity and when you get it, do what you can.

“But Waney doesn’t go off the name, he goes off who’s training the best – you have to play for your spot.”

Burgess is thought to have agreed a move to NRL giants Sydney Roosters for 2016, and a strong run of form next season may convince Wane he doesn’t need to look elsewhere for a replacement.

Manfredi described training in a Mixed Martial Arts gym as one of the toughest sessions on their trip. The Warriors players will tomorrow have an opposed session with a team comprised of American players, before taking in an NFL game.

Meanwhile, tickets for Wigan’s pre-season friendly against Leigh went on sale this week – priced £19 for adults. The game on January 18 at LSV is a testimonial for ex-prop Paul Prescott. Over 60s and student tickets are £16 and students, £5 U-16s and free for U12s (with paying adult).
