LEE Mossop’s exit to the NRL was expected to be confirmed today – but fans may see him in a Wigan shirt after this year.

The door will be left open for the Cumbrian prop to return to the club, with whispers last night the Warriors will have first refusal on his services when he returns to Super League.

An 11am press conference is expected to confirm the departure of England forwards Gareth Hock, currently on loan at Widnes, and Mossop to the Parramatta Eels at the end of this campaign – as well as the capture of Andy Powell from rugby union.

Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond revealed earlier this month that No.8 Powell was joining Wigan on a three-year contract.

The 31-year-old, who won the last of his 23 caps for Wales in February 2012, would become the highest-profile convert from league to union since Gareth Thomas joined Crusaders in 2010. He is seen by Shaun Wane as having the attributes to make his mark as a prop in league.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Warriors coach Matt Elliott has confirmed interest in Sam Tomkins.

“We are in the market for players and he’s a player that is possibly on the market,” said Elliott. “He is not the only player we are speaking to.”
