Shaun Edwards is being lined up to work with the Dragons rugby union club next season on a part-time basis, ruling him out of contention to replace Shaun Wane at Wigan Warriors.
The rugby league legend has been linked with a series of jobs including the England defence role, Harlequins head coach and at Wigan.
He was many fans’ favourite to take over at the club where he spent most of a glittering playing career during the most successful period in Wigan RL’s history in the 1980s and ‘90s.
But it has been reported Edwards will work with the Dragons while continuing with Wales.
The move is yet to be rubber stamped, but an announcement on Edwards’ appointment could be made this week by the Pro14 club.
Edwards is contracted with Wales until the 2019 World Cup.
