THREE Wigan players have been included in the Exiles squad to face England next month.
Thomas Leuluai has been joined by Warriors team-mates Pat Richards and George Carmont in the squad comprised of the best overseas players in Super League.
Leuluai was appointed vice-captain of the Exiles at its launch last month, with Leeds No.9 Danny Buderus named skipper.
The majority of the rest of the squad has been selected by fans and they opted for the experienced centre-wing combination of Richards and Carmont ahead of Warriors’ other overseas players.
Exiles coach Brian McClennan will select four more stars – one per week throughout this month – to complete his 22-man panel, which will then be reduced to 18 before the game at Leeds’ Headingley Stadium on Friday, Juny 10.
McClennan will be limited to a maximum of three players from each club when he makes the final cut.
The former Kiwi boss said: “The make-up of the squad looks very exciting.
“We have some terrific talent at our disposal with vast experience at the highest level.
“The fans have made some intelligent selections throughout the voting process over the past month. Their selections mirror the type of squad I am looking to build.
“Their fan picks will serve as the nucleus of my squad going into the game against England.
“A game of this nature will lift the profile of the sport throughout the northern hemisphere and will see the best players in the Engage Super League battling it out in what will be a breathtaking contest between two highly talented teams.”
All three Wigan players have international experience. Leuluai has been a key player for the Kiwis for several years, and though he has been overlooked for Friday’s Anzac Test against Australia due to travel demands he is set to play a key role in the end-of-season Four Nations.
Carmont has captained Samoa and Richards has represented Ireland.
If all three figure for the Exiles, they are likely to face an England side featuring club-mates such as Sean O’Loughlin and the Tomkins brothers.
Wigan have a game against Castleford two days later.
