MATTY Smith is aiming to use tonight’s clash with Huddersfield as the launchpad for him and half-back partner George Williams to flourish.
The all-English pairing have had the regular season to hone their partnership after stand-off Blake Green left at the end of last term – and Williams was given the nod instead of Warriors going in search of a high profile replacement.

And while the new partnership was thrown into action with little time to develop, Smith says tonight’s Super 8s opener and Wigan’s bid for a play-off spot signals their time to shine. “I think it was always going to start slow – a new partnership again – it was always going to take a little time to gel,” Smith explained.
“But I think we’re doing that. We’re getting better and better as the season goes on.
“This is when it counts and this is when for me you have to perform –I’ll be looking to pick my performances up like the rest of the players will be.”
Smith admits he hasn’t been 100 per cent happy with his own performances so far this season but thinks he has started to find his form, in a run which has seen Wigan win their last three games.
“I’ve been a bit scratchy in a few games but I think I’ve pulled it together in these last couple of months,” he said.
