SAM Tomkins has urged fans to get off their backsides and cheer on England.

The autumn series final against France is the last chance for Wigan fans to watch any top-level competitive rugby league until February.

And though England are the overwhelming favourites to win following their 44-6 victory in the dress-rehearsal in Hull a week ago, Tomkins has urged followers to get out in their droves and pack out Salford’s City Stadium.

The BBC are televising the contest live and with a peak audience of more than a million watching England’s opening match against Wales, Tomkins says supporters can play a huge part in showcasing the sport to a wider audience.

He told the Evening Post: “We’re always going to fighting to increase the profile of the game and to have the BBC there is brilliant for the sport.

“We’ve got a World Cup next year and the more interest we can generate among people who probably wouldn’t watch the game can only be a good thing.
“And if people are turning on their TV and seeing packed stands it’s a lot better.

“We don’t want people saying, ‘Look at the empty seats’, when they’re saying it sat at home in their armchair.

“Last week in Hull the fans were terrific, they never stopped singing and all the lads were talking about it.”
