JOEL Tomkins has undergone surgery on the injury which has ruled him out of Wigan’s Super League opener.
The forward is facing a six week spell on the sidelines.
The Evening Post revealed last Saturday he had damaged his knee, having played against Salford in a friendly.
John Bateman is set to start at second-row in his absence, with recruit Willie Isa also comfortable in that position.
Shaun Wane said: “He’s had a minor operation, it’s nothing serious.
“It’s unfortunate for Joel because he’s been leading training, and he deserved to play this week.”
Wigan open the new Super League campaign at home to Catalans on Friday.
