SHAUN Wane last night back-flipped on his decision to rest many of his stars for Sunday’s visit of Wakefield.
The coach had planned to take many of his frontline players out of the firing line to help them recover from last weekend’s World Club Challenge defeat – and the long return trip from Sydney.
But he changed his mind after they told him they were desperate to play as they lick their wounds from their 36-14 loss to Sydney Roosters.
Now, he will only rest a few players, rather than make sweeping changes. “They were banging on my door – they’ve changed my mind for me,” admitted Wane. “They want to play and put things right.”
Captain Sean O’Loughlin, hooker Mike McIlorum and forward Liam Farrell are all expected to play in the DW Stadium encounter (kick-off 3pm).
Dan Sarginson and Darrell Goulding will be rested to give Iain Thornley and Anthony Gelling a chance to impress.
Josh Charnley and Matt Bowen may also be put on ice, giving Dom Manfredi and Ryan Hampshire opportunities.
“I’ve just got to balance who I give game-time to over the next few weeks,” added Wane.
