Wane praise for Greenwood

"He is a big unit, he did some good things and I was happy with him," said Wane.

But Wane's delight with the performance was clipped.

"Leeds were off, so we're not running around patting each other on the back," he said. "I thought we managed the game well - we did some good things, we did what we practiced, we exploited what we wanted to and that was the pleasing part.

"We did alright, we did okay."

The win gave Wigan some breathing space on chasing pair, Castleford and Warrington.

As well as Greenwood's debut, England pair John Bateman and Sean O'Loughlin played five days after figuring in a Test in Denver.

"I gave the England lads the choice, because the travel back was horrendous and it was a big effort from them," added Wane.

The match was the first at home in seven weeks, a block away which allowed for a hybrid pitch to be put down.

Wane criticised the decision to water the surface before kick-off.

"The pitch was a bit heavy, a bit sandy, and they're watering the pitch before warm-up - crazily they're watering it on our home ground," he said. "It's madness."

Wane said Ben Flower (neck) and Dan Sarginson (knee) should be fit for selection for next Friday's visit of Warrington. The coach doesn't expect Romain Navarrete, sinbinned for an "awkward" dangerous tackle, to face any further punishment.

For Leeds, this was a seventh straight loss and it leaves them vulnerable of falling into the bottom-four by the end of this round.

Coach Brian McDermott said: "I could give you some cliches and say there's still some life in us and we're not done yet, and all that would be true."But if you're asking me if I'm concerned then yes, for sure. We've lost seven on the bounce.

"In the main I thought we conceded way too many soft tries. It was too easy for Wigan in that first-half."
