Shaun Wane knows there will be no shortage of motivation for Wigan Warriors tonight –but has warned that won’t be enough.
The departing coach and three players – Sam Tomkins, John Bateman and Ryan Sutton – make their final appearance at the DW Stadium as Wigan players this evening.
They stand just 80 minutes away from a place in next weekend’s Grand Final at Old Trafford.
And while Wane knows how hungry his players are to succeed, he says they will need to match their desire with a composed display.
He said: “I’ve been here a long time and it’s my dream job.
“I was born 200 metres from that ground, so it’ll be emotional, no question.
“There is a lot of ‘want’ within the team.
“There is a lot of desire - but that’s not enough, our process has to be good a well.
“It’s a big pitch, so lets use it, lets do what we’ve practiced. If we do that we’ll be hard to beat.”
Ben Flower, Sean O’Loughlin, Thomas Leuluai and Tomkins are set to return to the side which beat Hull FC last time out - Wigan’s eighth successive victory.
Wane has taken Wigan to four Grand Finals and also taken charge in two Challenge Cup Finals and two World Club Challenge matches.
He picks out the victory against Cronulla last year as not only his favourite win at the DW, but his most memorable triumph as coach.
“To win it at home in front of our fans and my family - I had my grandson Teddy on the pitch afterwards - was special,” he said. “I loved winning at Wembley and Old Trafford for the first time but the World Club was extra special, especially given the club’s history with the competition, and how long it had been since we’d won it.
“Plus, we beat a very good Cronulla team spending four times the salary cap as us. It was a great achievement.
“Seeing the lads’ faces afterwards, and knowing that in 20, 30 years time - they may not see some of their team-mates much in between but when they do, they’ll have that connection.
“You get a bond when you win a trophy - and I hope we’ve got one more in us before I go.”
Fans are reminded tickets are on sale until kick-off (7.45pm) and there will be some cash turnstiles.
