SHAUN Wane will send his players off for a Christmas break today with instructions to enjoy themselves ... but not too much.
The Warriors boss revealed his players are fitter now than they were 12 months ago.
Their pre-season is put on hold for a week as Wane gives them time to enjoy with their families before they report back on January 2, ahead of a camp in Florida.
And Wane said: “I want them to all have a relaxing time with their families, but I’ll be telling them not to let all their good work go to waste.
“I just gave them all a big rap about how they’ve acquitted themselves so far, and we’re further on now than last year.
“This time 12 months ago I had a couple of concerns. This time, they’ve been great and I’m really happy with where we’re at.
“And that’s not just me being satisfied – if you look at our stats from sessions we’ve done at Rivington and Formby, we’re better than we were a year ago.”
Meanwhile, Wane admits Wigan may lean more heavily on their partnership with Championship One outfit South Wales Scorpions next season after Leigh formally ended their dual-registration arrangement with the Warriors.
Wane also plans to loan players to London Broncos.
“It was handy for us and I like (Leigh coach) Paul Rowley,” said Wane. “But I can see why Leigh made their decision and, from our point of view, we have other options, so I don’t see it as a problem.”
