SHAUN Wane faces an anxious wait after Eddy Pettybourne became the main victim of Wigan’s World Club Challenge defeat.
The prop was placed on report for a high-tackle on Shaun Kenny Dowall during the 36-14 defeat.
But any suspension may be immaterial as the prop is staring at a spell on the sidelines with a biceps tear.
Pettybourne - an off-season recruit from Wests Tigers - had the injury scanned in Sydney yesterday before the team’s departure.
But the severity won’t be known until he has another scan in England later this week to determine the full extent of the problem.
Either way, the USA World Cup prop won’t play in Wigan’s next match, against Wakefield in Super League on Sunday.
And in a worse case scenario, he could be staring at a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Wane said: “We won’t know until we’ve had another scan just how bad it is. It might be nothing or it could be an injury which keeps him out for a while, we’ll have to wait and see.” Roosters coach Trent Robinson admitted Pettybourne put a marker on his head when he cleaned out Kenny-Dowall with a clothesline in the 38th minute. The incident will be viewed by the RFL’s match review panel today.
