WIGAN Warriors have gone back to the future with the release of their new playing kits for 2016.
The home and away shirts both have a more than familiar look, having each been inspired by the club’s glory days.
Wigan’s home shirt is a remake of the 1989-92 design, when the club managed to win the double in all three years as well as the World Club Championship, the Regal Trophy, the Premiership Trophy and Charity Shield.
The away shirt will see Wigan wear blue and white hoops for the first time in 11 years, and is a throw-back to the Challenge Cup winning shirt from 1988-9.
In a break from the norm, Warriors have also released an alternative ‘third’ shirt, which will be worn a similar number of times to the away kit, particularly in cases where the opposition are wearing white.
The Warriors will become the first rugby league club to wear a dayglo kit when they kick off the season in February.
All three kits will carry the logos of key sponsors including 188BET, the club’s new official main sponsor.
It is anticipated the home and away shirts will be on sale before Christmas, while the alternative kit will be released in the New Year.
