WIGAN won’t rush into appointing a successor to Paul Deacon after his move to Sale Sharks RU was confirmed.
Shaun Wane’s No.2 carried out his duties in the victory against Leeds but will now leave his post, to take up his new role on Monday.
Chairman Ian Lenagan said the Aviva Premiership outfit had paid “a significant compensation amount” to secure Deacon’s services.
The former GB and Wigan scrum-half said he didn’t go looking for the new position, and the offer came “out the blue.”
Lenagan added: “Our rugby director Kris Radlinski has set things in motion to find a high quality replacement for Paul, this is a vital appointment and one we will not rush into.”
Wane’s other assistant, John Winder, and junior coaches Matty Peet and Jordan James will shoulder more responsibilities while they look for a successor.
