Wigan will hit the road tomorrow – for a training camp with a difference.
They are heading to Snowdonia, in north Wales, for four days working with the Red Bull team.
Coaches and the bulk of the first-team squad – including the returning Dan Sarginson – will take part in the venture. Only those who played in the World Cup will miss out. Their packed itinerary will combine intense training sessions and skills work with ‘life experiences’ and team-building exercises during their trip away.
The nature of the activities are being kept a tightly guarded secret but, given the other sports and athletes Red Bull are involved with, players may be preparing to expect the unexpected!
Shaun Wane, taking charge of his seventh pre-season as head coach, has favoured Florida for pre-season camps in the past.
Last year they changed tact and embarked on a road-trip around the country, visiting various training venues and taking part in activities such as mountain-biking and surfing. And with a two-game tour of Australia in February, they have again decided to stay on home soil.
