Will Thomas Leuluai play on in 2021?

Thomas Leuluai has yet to decide whether to play on next season or hang up his boots.

The 35-year-old is approaching the end of his contract and has a deal with Wigan to join the coaching staff.

He said from the outset he would make a decision later down the track – but that point has not yet come.

“I’m just going to go out and see how I feel and see what is out there, I’ve not made a call yet,” he said.

“I’ve not decided either way.”

Highly-rated youngster Harry Smith is seen as a candidate for a Wigan halfback position long-term.

But if Jackson Hastings exercises his get-out clause and leaves at the end of this year, then it may make sense for Leuluai to play on for one more season to ease the transition. He says his body is feeling in good condition following the lay-off.

“For players looking to prolong their careers, five months off has probably benefited them,” said Leuluai, who has had two spells with Wigan.

The Kiwi World Cup winner rolled his ankle minutes in Sunday’s comeback match against Wakefield and left Headingley wearing a protective boot.
