Punk-influenced three-piece Boomin have stripped down a whole range of songs and created unique unplugged versions for new release Off The Wood.

The album, its title a riff on a saying for something incredible, sees lead vocalist and guitarist Adam Langmead, his brother Edd on drums and bassist Rory O’Grady tackle tracks by artists from Prince and Billy Joel to thunderous American metal titans Killswitch Engage.

Rory says the group was influenced by other rock bands switching their electric instruments for acoustic and hopes fans will be surprised by some of the cover versions.

He said: “We were really inspired by the MTV Unplugged show, especially when bands mixed up the feel and changed the whole vibe of their songs.

“We’ve wanted to do an acoustic album for a while.

“The title comes from the saying ‘off the chain’ for when something is amazing. We were on a lads’ holiday and the guy we wrote Original Junkie about dived into the pool off a wooden structure and said it was off the wood.

“It also goes quite nicely with an acoustic guitar being made of wood.

“We’ve covered bands we like such as Green Day and Funeral For A Friend because they are big influences on us and then we’ve chosen some iconic acts like the Rolling Stones and Prince.

“I think the biggest surprise will be the Killswitch Engage.

“We covered one of their songs acoustically a few years ago and put it on YouTube and so many people liked it we’ve decided to do another one.”

Boomin will play a hometown show at The Old Courts in December and promise a spectacular

two-hour performance.
