Lottery Winners 'heartbroken' as drive-in stadium gig is cancelled

The Leigh four-piece had been due to play at the University of Bolton Stadium on July 30.

However, in a statement Live Nation, the promoters behind the dozen dates of Live From The Drive In, said the whole concept was being axed due to the fears of further local lockdowns like the one in Leicester being imposed.

A post on the Lottery Winners' social media read: "We're absolutely heartbroken about this. Another big blow. This one hurts. We're so sorry."

Earlier this week front man Thom Rylance had told the Wigan Post how much the band was looking forward to returning to the live arena and performing for fans after months without live gigs.

The gig would have involved 300 cars driving into designated zones from which occupants could enjoy the show.

The concerts had been due to feature some of the biggest names in British music, including The Kaiser Chiefs, Dizzee Rascal and The Streets.

In its statement Live Nation said: "The Live From The Drive In concert series will no longer proceed as planned this summer. We received huge support from artists, the live music production contractors, our headline sponsor Utilita along with our other partners, and of course, the fans.

"The latest developments regarding localised lockdowns mean it has become impossible for us to continue with the series with any confidence.

"We thank everyone for their support and eagerly await a time when we can watch live music together again."

Full refunds will be issued to ticket holders within seven days.
