Afterwards, participants will be able to tuck into a turkey sandwich, mince pie and mulled wine as the festivities continue. The popular event raises money for Three Wishes, the charity of Wrightington, Wigan And Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the borough’s hospitals.

Organiser Nick Abbott, from Orrell-based 8070 Events, said: “It helps people get in the festive spirit and they can raise funds for charities. The charity connected this year is Three Wishes, but people can raise money for their own charities as well.”

Christmas music was played as more than 300 people took part in the dash last year.

And people of all abilities are being urged to get into the festive spirit and take part this time.

Mr Abbott said: “It’s a way for people to get healthier and have fun. They don’t have to be able to run, it’s only 5k so even if they walked it would be finished in 50 minutes.

“It’s for Christmas and a chance for families to enjoy it together.”

Entry costs £8 for under 10s, £15 for under 16s and £20 for adults.

Santa suits will be provided for participants to wear when taking part in the fun run.
