A POP-punk band hopes to provide an alternative to the battle for Christmas number one with the launch of its debut EP over the festive season.
Hindley-based group Trip The Light will unleash the three tracks of Insanity on the Wigan music scene at the Hockery Brook pub on December 28.
The band, made up of Rochdale singer and bassist Connor Maguire and St John Rigby College students Jake Berry and Thomas Gilbody on guitars and Cohen Hale on drums, recorded the EP at The Lounge Studios after honing their sound on the borough’s live circuit with help from the 21:12 Music Community.
The group draw influences from both classic British acts including the Sex Pistols and The Clash and American pop-punk bands such as Bowling for Soup and Green Day.
Jake said: “We’re very proud of these songs and we’re already writing new ones which have quite unusual structures. We’ve also got a song on the EP called Home which has more of a grunge influence.
“We’ve been gigging a lot thanks to 21:12, we’ve played on the Mesnes Park bandstand, competed in battle of the bands events and busked in Wigan town centre.”
The band hope to return to the studio to record a full-length album next Easter.
