A LEGENDARY Wigan rock music venue will re-open tonight with one of the bands playing making it a double outing on the live scene this weekend.
Standishgate venue Cube, formerly known as Maximes, will throw open its doors once more to Friday night rock music, with sets from Wigan bands The Vicious Circle and Cautious Retreat.
The club was known across Wigan for its mixture of rock and dance club nights and also served as a live venue before closing its doors last year.
Pop-rock four-piece The Vicious Circle will then return to the live stage 48 hours later with an appearance at Swinley venue Docherty’s where they will play for around two hours.
The Vicious Circle guitarist and singer Pete Owen, 28, said: “We’re quite honoured to be asked to be the first bands on at Cube.
“I went to Maximes’ Friday night rock nights to listen to the music, and it was a big part of the scene when I turned 18.
“To be helping to launch the next chapter of the revamped club is extremely exciting and all the lads have said exactly the same.
“We’re also looking forward to playing at Docherty’s, and quite a few of our fans have been saying they are going to come to the gig on our Facebook page.”
The Vicious Circle is currently recording and producing a video to accompany the release of forthcoming single Time Has Come.
The band’s previous single, Overtaking Time, was launched in March in aid of Bolton-based charity Lagan’s Foundation, which supports families of babies born with a congenital heart defect.
The Vicious Circle and Cautious Retreat will play at the opening night of Cube tonight, with doors opening at 9pm. The Vicious Circle will also play at Docherty’s on Sunday April 13. To find out more, visit www.facebook.com/thevc.band.wigan
