A MULTI-talented Wigan singer-songwriter is celebrating her soaring stage success with the release of a first single.

Lucy Westhead will release the debut EP at the beginning of September with musician and producer Troy Miller (pictured).

Formerly of Wigan Lane, she decided to go solo after spending some time singing with a number of different bands.

This saw her perform at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Glastonbury and the Taubertal Festival.

The 34-year-old admitted she misses her home town.

Lucy said: “I fell in love with singing whilst at school and also as a dancer at the Buckley School of Dance.

“It is great finally to release my EP Need Something as it has been a long time in the making and I know quite a few Wiganers have been waiting to hear the finished piece. I am really proud of each of the songs that feature on it.

“It was a privilege to work with Troy. Not only did he do a fantastic job at the mixing desk in producing the EP, but he also arranged the strings and played the drums and percussion. Having someone as talented as him, who has played drums with so many great artists play on the tracks was amazing.

“We recorded four of the songs with a string section and I think that brings a real richness to the sound and brings the songs to life.”

Lucy attended St Mary’s and St John’s Primary in Standishgate before moving onto St John Fisher High and then Winstanley College.

It was here she really flourished, participating in every school performance both singing and acting.

The five-track EP Need Something, which was recorded in Troy’s West London studio, mixes her powerful vocals and emotional lyrics with anthemic strings and strong rhythms.

The EP has been co-written by Lucy and includes the original version of the song Don’t Let Me Know that was remixed by DJ Hixxy and featured on a hit Clubland album that was released last Summer.

Mr Miller said: “Lucy Westhead is a real artist who has done the hard graft and who I believe will have longevity. I look forward to working with her again.”

Troy, who has worked with Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Roy Ayers, Daniel Merriweather and most recently with Laura Mvula’s as her Musical Director also plays drums on four of the tracks.

The EP will be released on Monday September 1 and will be available on iTunes and Amazon.
