Producer hopes for chart hit

A WIGAN-born music producer believes he may have uncovered the hit pop act of the summer.

Jason Nolan, who was born in Lowton but moved to Poole with his family while still at school, has signed new boyband South4 to his company Eagle Music, and will release their debut EP Cougar Town next month.

Jason, who studied at Guildford School of Acting and has sung in the West End in shows including Les Miserables, put the band together after being approached by two of the group while he was auditioning singers at The Brit School in London.

South4’s debut release has been produced by Paul Moessl, who has previously worked with the Pussycat Dolls, and hopes are high that the four lads will make a big impression on the charts and clubs when Cougar Town is released.

The track has already the attention of mixing engineer Mr Jones, who has worked with Tinie Tempah, who has already produced a dance remix of the song.

Jason’s father Jim Nolan, who works as a non-executive director for Eagle, said: “Jason recorded a few songs with the lads and approached Warner with it, and they all thought it was absolutely wonderful.

“All the people they’ve worked with are really excited about it and think it could be a massive hit. They’ve already had more than 3,000 tweets about it in the first week, which is a huge number for a group who are still unknown at this stage.”

South4’s debut is something of a departure for Jason, who has previously worked extensively with classical singers including up-and-coming soprano Joanna Marie, who has earned comparisons with Lesley Garrett.

Despite working with some of the biggest names in music, Jason has certainly not abandoned his northern roots.

Jim said: “Jason did his first-ever performance at a hotel in Wigan when he was about 16, and he also sang at the Bodega before that closed down. We also went to the dance halls such as the Casino.

“We will always have a massive soft spot for Wigan. and we still have local ties which never go away.”

Jason will also be producing South4’s debut album, which will be released through Eagle Music later in the year.

Cougar Town will be released on iTunes on July 2.
