TAKING the re-opened Nirvana nightclub into Christmas this year, is Smitten Kitten.

The 1980s-inspired rock outfit are back from a short break away from the music scene and are armed with a new drummer and new material.

Racking up a list of gigs to tackle before the year is out, the glam rockers will be the first band to perform at the new Under 18s night at Nirvana on December 22.

Smitten Kitten, who are inspired by Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Journey, are also booked to play a selection of small local festivals in 2012.

Guitarist and lead vocalist said: “We had a short break while deciding where to take the band but since September we’ve been gigging across the North West with a change of line-up.

“I have been spending a lot of time in the shower which is where I write most of my material.

“We have new material but nothing recorded as of yet although we plan on releasing a full album’s worth of some old re-recorded material and some completely new material.

“It will contain some definite guilty pleasures/power ballads.”

The new Kitten line up which now consists of Sam, 18, Josh Hindle, 19 on bass, Josh Millar, 20 on guitar and new drummer, Chris Meehan, 16. The Pemberton and Winstanley lads earned themselves a place at this year’s Haigh Fest and have since found themselves gaining more fans than ever before.

Sam added: “Haigh Fest was a great experience and we gained many fans and friends from it.

“Thank you to all who supported us, we wish we could do it again next year.

“For those bands wanting to perform at the festival next year, in the words of Steven Perry: “don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling”, just go for it, what have you got to loose?

“And don’t be too disheartened if you don’t succeed because there are so many bands that apply every year.” Looking forward to the future, Smitten Kitten are working on the worlds’s greatest power ballads.

Sam added: “We’re working on writing songs that women will get hot and bothered over and will make men break down into tears.”
