A TRIO of up-and-coming acts will take to the stage in the town centre as part of a Wigan promoter’s latest monthly midweek gig.

The Thursday Club Live, which takes place at Mortimers and is run by Wigan musician Pete Owen, returns with performances from The Vicious Circle, So Green and Paul McHale next week.

Pop-rock four-piece The Vicious Circle, which includes promoter Pete on guitars and vocals, will return to the Wigan gig scene after a Christmas break in preparation for a busy spring which includes radio appearances and the release of charity single Overtaking Time in aid of Bolton-based organisation Lagan’s Foundation.

The line-up will also feature Wigan and Skelmersdale act So Green, who will bring their brand of crowd-pleasing rock to the King Street venue, and eclectic acoustic guitarist Paul McHale who will take a break from his role performing in Sellenium to show off some of his diverse solo material.

With three acts on the bill the acts will all get a longer set list than usual, with the chance to play for around 60 minutes each.

Promoter Pete said: “We’re really pleased to be back on the live scene with The Vicious Circle and to be performing at a grassroots level again.

“So Green will provide quite a complimentary sound to The Vicious Circle, and then we’ve got Paul who does absolutely anything and everything in his set.

“I want to give opportunities to smaller bands who’ve got 20 minutes to fill but I’m also getting calls from groups with an hour of material.

“Excitement really seems to be building about this gig on Facebook and other social media so it should be a really good night.”

Since setting up the Thursday Club Live late last year Pete has seen interest in the monthly gigs growing rapidly, with acts already looking to get on to the bills for the February events.

Pete is also planning to launch the Thursday Club Live Festivals in March, which will see larger gigs taking place every three months in the upstairs room at Jaks.

Pete said: “The enthusiasm and response from bands has been amazing. I’m going to carry on putting the gigs on as long as people want to play.

“The festival events will have a bigger sound and I want to get some bigger names on the bills as headliners with local acts from the music scene supporting them.

“We’re already taking names for the next two editions in February and March so anyone who wants to play should get in touch.”

The Vicious Circle, So Green and Paul McHale will perform at the Thursday Club Live at Mortimers, on King Street, on Thursday, January 30.

Entry is free and doors open at 7pm. For more information, search for Thursday Club Live on Facebook or follow the promotion on Twitter.
