A WIGAN metal band is hoping to take fans on a slightly different journey into musical darkness on its second full-length album.
Five-piece Sinnergod are currently putting the finishing touches to We’ve Been Expecting You, the follow-up to debut The Seven Deadly Sinphonies.
While the first single Burn sticks fairly closely to Sinnergod’s trademark brand of gothic-influenced melodic metal the album also sees the group branch out to incorporate more ‘80s rock and pop elements.
The album is also the first outing for the group’s new line-up, with guitarist Sam Saint and bassist James Dunn joining earlier this year alongside vocalist and guitarist Mark Hampson, drummer Chris Hampson and keyboardist and backing vocalist Paul Swindells.
Chris said: “The album is virtually done, we’ve been working hard in the studio. This time we’ve concentrated on writing the songs we wanted to produce rather than what people are used to hearing.
“We’re all into different styles of music and we’ve brought it all together. We’re also hoping to have three guests on the album but they’re not confirmed.
“Having the new members has freshened up the band and it’s given us a lot more energy live. A lot of the songs for the album had been written before they joined but they’ve still had quite a lot of input.”
We’ve Been Expecting You was recorded at Sinnergod’s own Digiwave studio in Wigan, with drum tracking at The Lounge.
The band has written around 16 tracks for the album and will whittle it down to the final dozen, although Chris says they may look at releasing all the songs on a future double CD with alternative artwork.
Unlike The Seven Deadly Sinphonies the new release is not a concept album but Chris says an interest in horror runs throughout the songs, with stock spine-chilling characters such as vampires making several appearances in the lyrics and subject matter.
The band is currently taking a break from the live circuit to finish the album but will return to the gig scene this autumn, with shows including their now-annual hometown Hallowe’en bash.
We’ve Been Expecting You by Sinnergod is slated for release on October 2, with single Burn out in September. For information visit www.sinnergod.com
