EXPECT a barnstorming sing-song as Wigan Choral Society tackles two romantic masterpieces next month.
Joined by an orchestra, the chorus will be performing Beethoven’s Mass in C and giving a rare local outing for Mendelssohn’s epic Hymn of Praise. More than an hour long, the latter is in fact the composer’s second symphony and is full of stirring drama and memorable melody.
Conducted by Paul Chamberlain, the choir and orchestra are joined for the concert at St Michael’s Church, Swinley, by the singers Diane Chadwick, Melanie Levy, Tim Kennedy and Roger Barlow.
The music begins at 7.30pm on Saturday November 10 and the admission prices, inclusive of programme, are £8, £7 (concessions) and £3 (students). For tickets and further information ring 01257 400852 or pay on the door.
The choir will be singing more Mendelssohn next year for its 80th anniversary when it re-enacts its first ever concert - the oratorio Elijah.
