WIGANERS are being offered the opportunity to experience a trip to France this September.
A coach party will be heading to Wigan’s twin town of Angers, in the Loire Valley, to visit the town’s sights and experience Les Accroche-Coeurs, a massive street theatre festival which attracts more than 150,000 people each year.
The trip is being run by the Angers Twinning Association, which has been bringing people from the two towns closer together through annual trips for over 20 years.
Association chair Christine Doublet-Stewart says the opportunity to visit Accroche-Coeurs is extremely exciting.
She said: “It is a non-stop festival which goes on for three days, with all kinds of entertainment going on in the streets, shows, theatre, music, anything you can think of really.
“It’s a type of carnival, but that doesn’t really explain what a huge event it is, there’s just so much going on all over the town for Accroche-Coeurs.”
Christine says she hopes the Accroche-Coeurs trip will spark more interest in the twinning ahead of the 25th anniversary of the link between Wigan and Angers, which will be celebrated with a number of special events next year.
The coach departs on September 6, with a ferry to St Malo before arriving in Angers for three nights. The trip returns in the early hours of September 11.
The estimated cost is £189, including coach, ferry, and accommodation with a host family or in a hotel. A deposit of £80 per person will need to be paid by March 14.
