Wigan children launch book

On Saturday 22nd November 'The Kindness Club', a book written entirely by children from the Wigan borough will launch at Wigan Library.
Earlier this year local children submitted a short story or poem to their local library in the hopes of being published in a book. Over 60 entries were chosen for 'The Kindness Club' and this weekend the kids will see the finished book for the first time.
Run as a partnership between Wigan Council and Maddison House Press, a local book publishing company, 'The Kindness Club' was set up to inspire local kids to get involved in reading and writing.
"I was published in a book like this when I was at Primary School," says Maddison House Press Founder and CEO Gemma Holgate. "I can still remember the feelings of pride and achievement and I have no doubt that it, in some way, influenced me to end up running a book publishing company."

Reading is a crucial part of development for kids but recent statistics have shown a drop in engagement from young people. "Books, stories, and skills like reading and writing are incredibly important. It brings me so much joy to see so many children have engaged with this project. The submissions are just amazing!" says Gemma.
'The Kindness Club' is being launched at Wigan Library on Saturday 22nd November as part of the Christmas Book Fair. All the children who have been involved have been offered the opportunity to sign and sell the books and have a real author experience.
You can come along to the book fair for free and support these young authors or you get a copy from the Maddison House Press website.
