Today's news that Kraft Heinz is intending to plough £140m into its Kitt Green facility - with tomato ketchup, mayonnaise and salad cream being made at the Wigan plant once more - is a welcome boost for the borough.

1989 - Princess Anne is presented with a £30,000 cheque for the Save the Children Fund, of which she was president, by Derek Dollman, Chairman of Heinz Kitt Green Fund Raising Committee.Sadly Derek died of a heart attack shortly after the princess left the factory.
