It follows a £13m regeneration project to turn the former cotton mill on Mather Lane into 99 luxury, loft-style apartments.

JP McGuire Developments began the transformation of the Grade II listed building two years ago.

The large mill, which sits on the bank of the Bridgewater Canal and was built in 1882, had stood empty for 20 years before the property developer took it over.

With high ceilings and large floorplans, the one, two and three bedroom apartments in the development are spacious, with the largest apartment covering 165m sq.

There are eight penthouse apartments, which each contain their own outside space with far reaching views across Manchester, the Peak District, and beyond.

As well as containing original features such as large windows and brick walls to preserve, JP McGuire has fitted out each home with high specification kitchens, flooring, heating, ventilation, and security systems.

To date, 82 of the apartments have sold.

Now, the property developer has started to move in the new residents in stages to ensure that people can adhere to social distancing guidelines.

The final stage of the development will see JP McGuire put the finishing touches to the communal areas, which include an on-site gym, private cinema and large dining room.

Jonathan Twentyman, managing director of JP McGuire Developments, said: “We’re extremely proud of what we’ve achieved here in Leigh.

“Our aim was always to create attractive, comfortable homes for local people and we’ve transformed this beautiful red brick mill into homes that have everything you need for modern living, while still keeping the character and heritage of the building.”
