An independent, family run wool shop in Standish has been put forward for a top industry award by its loyal customers.

Lisa Yates and mum Sheena Southern, who run Angel and Acorn Boutique in High Street, were overjoyed to discover that they had nominated them for the title of Best Independent Local Yarn Shop in the North of England, in the British Hand Knitting & Crochet Awards 2020. The duo founded the business in 2012 but opened their first bricks and mortar store in 2019, capitalising on the growing popularity of knitting. The business was forced to close when the UK lockdown was announced on March 23, leading to uncertainty for the shop’s future, but Lisa and Sheena have managed to continue trading online to keep the business afloat.

They were stunned to receive a letter in the post informing them that they had been shortlisted for the top award.

Lisa said: “This is a massive honour just to be nominated, as we are up against some more established and well known businesses, and the fact a little shop in Standish has been nominated is just unbelievable.”
