A Leigh town centre pub could be used for another purpose as it struggles to cover 'basic operating costs'

“Despite two years of hard work and dedication, the business is unfortunately struggling to cover its basic operating costs.”

The boss of a town centre micropub is considering its future as it struggles to make ends meet.

The Central Pub opened on Bradshawgate, Leigh, in 2024 and offers drinks, food, pool tables and games machines.

But a post on its Facebook page revealed it is “struggling to cover its basic operating costs” and the building could be used for another purpose in future.

It said: “Today marks exactly two years since I took over this long-vacant premises on Leigh high street. My goal was simple: to bring a vibrant local spot back to life, contribute to our community and build a stable future for my son.

“Despite two years of hard work and dedication, the business is unfortunately struggling to cover its basic operating costs. Even a quick visit for a single drink before a night out makes a world of difference to a independent venue, but given our current footfall, we are now facing some very difficult decisions.

“Because I am committed to our lease agreements and contracts, simply closing the doors isn't an immediate option. Instead, I want to adapt and find out what our community actually needs.”

The post included a poll with possible options for the future of the premises, which were: CBD, legal vape and nicotine products; charity cafe supporting the homeless with free or affordable meals; full-service beauty and spa; independent gaming and slot machines; and keeping the pub open.

Last month, a separate post on the pub’s Facebook page announced it was lowering its prices “so you can enjoy your time with us at a lower cost than before”.
