New era begins at The Charles Dickens in Wigan as the pub reopens under new management

A much-loved Wigan landmark has entered a brand-new chapter this month, as The Charles Dickens pub and hotel officially reopens under new management and begins an ambitious programme of improvements

Following a challenging period for the venue on Upper Dicconson Street in Swinley, the new management team has already set to work revitalising the historic establishment, which has long served as a central hub for the community.

Significant investment is currently being made throughout the building.

A completely new kitchen is being installed, paving the way for a refreshed and expanded food menu set to launch in the near future.

The aim, management says, is to raise the standard of dining with freshly prepared dishes, improved pub classics, and new offerings to suit families, locals, and visitors alike.

The adjoining hotel is also undergoing a major overhaul.

Once renovations are complete, guests can expect modern, luxury rooms designed to offer a more comfortable and stylish stay than ever before.

Patrons will already notice the ongoing transformation.

Décor is being modernised, new taps are planned to be installed very soon, and the alcohol range has been expanded with additional brands and drink deals.

A full refurbishment of the beer garden is also planned for next year, promising an improved outdoor space ahead of the summer season.

Despite the extensive work taking place, The Charles Dickens remains fully open, welcoming customers throughout the renovation period.

To mark the start of this new era, the pub will be hosting a Northern Soul Night on Friday December 6.

The event will feature classic Northern Soul music, drink offers, and a chance for locals to meet the new team behind the revival of the venue.

The management expressed enthusiasm for the future, stating that the improvements are just the beginning of their long-term vision for restoring The Charles Dickens to its former prominence within the community.

Residents are invited to attend the upcoming music night and experience the renewed atmosphere for themselves.
