Remembering Wigan Woolworths in the 1960s to '80s

It is now a smart and large cafe welcoming 1,000 visitors a day, but The Coffee House at the top of Standishgate used long ago to be home to Woolworth’s, that once famous brand which disappeared from UK high streets in 2009. But it was the 1980s that Woolies left Wigan so we have had to go quite a way back for archive pictures of staff, customers and events there.

The pictures were taken in the 1960s through to the store’s closure in 1982.
