While many small businesses have made the tough decision to furlough staff during the coronavirus pandemic, Cloud Perspective has welcomed a new recruit in Manisha Varu.

The data consultancy firm had pre-empted the Government’s call for remote working by asking staff to work from home in mid-March.

And during the first official week of lockdown, Manisha got to work as a trainee data consultant.

That was despite not setting foot in the office at Wigan Investment Centre since her job interview and not being able to meet her colleagues in person.

She said: “I was delighted to be offered the trainee data consultant role at Cloud Perspective and as this was my first full-time job since graduating from university, I was really excited to be learning something new and getting to know the team.

“On my first day, the team organised an informal video call to introduce me to everyone.

“Through a combination of training and shadowing meetings, I’ve been able to grasp the role well and joining meetings with the team has given me an insight into exactly what the company does.

“I think it’s great that we’re able to use technology to our advantage and I feel I’ve still been able to do everything that I would have done at the office.

“Cloud Perspective directors Martyn and Miranda are always checking in to make sure that everyone has what they need whilst working from home, and they recently sent the team a surprise gift package!”

CEO Martyn Leman said: “We are delighted that Manisha has been able to join Cloud Perspective as our latest trainee data consultant.

“We know that the entire team is working to make her feel welcome and involved in our varied project work and ensuring that she has everything she needs to feel like a valuable member of the team.

“Remote working is not a new experience for us, as many of our clients are based in the USA or worldwide and we are very used to Zooming!”

As Baroness Barran said in a House of Lords debate this week on the importance of journalists: "Not only are they a trusted source of facts, but they will have a role to play in rallying communities and getting the message across about how we can keep ourselves and our families safe, and protect our NHS. Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."

But being your eyes and ears comes at a price. So we need your support more than ever to buy our newspapers during this crisis. In return we will continue to forensically cover the local news - not only the impact of the virus but all the positive and uplifting news happening in these dark days.
