Wigan's latest hygiene ratings

Inspectors from the Food Standards Agency made surprise visits to 65 food-serving establishments across the borough in February, and dished out the highest mark of Five to 34 of them.

Nine businesses were awarded the second highest score of Four, while 15 were given Three.

Four businesses earned a Two, and three businesses were given a low score on One.

No businesses received the dreaded bottom score of Zero in March.

Businesses that serve food are rated on how hygienically it is handled; how it is prepared, cooked, reheated, cooled and stored; the condition of the structure of the buildings; the cleanliness, lay-out, lighting, ventilation and other facilities, as well as how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.
