GCSE results: celebrations for pupils at Hawkley Hall High School

Year 11 pupils across the borough have received their GCSE results, following the first set of summer examinations in three years.

Pupils, staff and parents of Hawkley Hall High School queued up as they awaited the big moment of finally revealing what grades they had achieved in their GCSEs.

Scarlet Whiteside, 16, from Winstanley, said: “I got a nine in history and RE and then eights in everything else, except chemistry. I’m going to go to Winstanley to do philosophy, history and English. I want to be a lawyer someday. I did better than I expected.”

Daisy Clayton, 16, from Hawkley, said: “I got an eight in English Literature. I’ve been quite nervous leading up to today but I feel relieved now. I’m looking to study biology, chemistry and psychology at Winstanley College.”

Josh Dixon, 16, from Hawkley, said: “I’m proud of my maths, I got an eight and English, I got a seven in both. I’m going to go to Winstanley to study maths, further maths and computer science. I’d like to go into engineering.”

Brandon Gaskell, 16, from Astley, said: “I’m most proud of my music result, I got a five. I’m going to Wigan and Leigh College to do football. I want to be a footballer, hopefully for Wigan Athletic. I’m going to go out with my mates and celebrate.”

A spokesman for the school said: "After unprecedented challenges over the last two years our students, in partnership with staff and parents, have worked extremely hard and deserve their success. We wish them well in the next stage of their education and training.”
