PICTURE SPECIAL: Wigan pupils enjoy new play facilities thanks to fund-raisers

Excited school pupils can finally enjoy their new play area thanks to a successful fund-raising campaign.Work on the new playground for early years children at Marsh Green Primary School was carried out over the Easter holiday, but it could not be completed as the school ran out of money, leaving the site unusable.Scott Beardsworth, outdoor learning teacher and head of PE, was determined to see the new play area finished and children finally enjoying it, so he launched a fund-raising appeal to collect the £2,800 needed to complete the work.

Donations poured in to his online appeal, while school staff and pupils also helped by holding a non-uniform day and raffle and one 10-year-old pupil managed to raise more than £100 with a 24-hour sponsored silence. Enough money was raised for the work to be completed and Marsh Green youngsters are now making the most of their new play area – it looks like lots of fun.
