A series of revamps has been carried out at The Westleigh School, with bosses making the most of the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Along with a new sports pitch, the school has improved its toilets and the exterior of its sports hall.

Principal Carlton Bramwell said: “We continuously strive for the highest-quality facilities that are modern, hygienic and safe for all our students.

“During the summer and lockdown periods, we took advantage of the quiet corridors and used this time to make incredible improvements around the school, including a top-of-the-range sports field.”

Facilities are continually being updated at the school, which is part of Shaw Education Trust, and the investment in the future has been well received, with pupils regularly seen running around the new 3G UEFA-standard pitch.

Although the school is unable to host its usual open evening for prospective students and their families, virtual and private tours have been made available to provide an insight into life there and showcase the new facilities.

It is just one of the ways the school has changed due to the outbreak of the pandemic.

Mr Bramwell added: “Since students returned, attendance has increased and the atmosphere throughout the classrooms and buildings is buzzing.

“All staff, students and their families have adapted to the modified school procedures and embraced new teaching methods with ease and dedication, including those learning from home.”
