Wigan secondary school sends home Year 11s after positive Covid-19 test

The school in Carr Lane confirmed today, September 21, that the entire year group would be learning from home in self-isolation for the next fortnight, after a student's Coronavirus test returned a positive diagnosis.

The school's headteacher Matt Klinck assured parents that the move was a precautionary measure, imposed to reduce the spread of the virus throughout the community.

In a statement this afternoon, Mr Klinck said: “This morning we have completed the track and trace procedure working in partnership with Public Health England.

"The decision has been made, in conjunction with Public Health and LA colleagues that all Y11 students must now stay at home and self-isolate until the 5th October as they are deemed to be a potential close contact of a confirmed case. Please note that this is a precautionary measure.

"We are asking families to do this in order to reduce the further spread of COVID-19 to others in the community.

"All students will revert to live online learning with their classroom teachers on Microsoft Teams with effect from tomorrow morning.”

Last week, the Carr Lane school sent home its entire Year 8 group after a pupil tested positive for the virus. They will be learning from home and self-isolating until the end of this week.
