The Yarrow Schools Teaching Alliance is the perfect training provider for dedicated, hard-working adults with a passion to train or retrain and join the teaching profession.

Suitable for graduates of any discipline, the one-year course awards Qualified Teacher Status, your ticket to teach in the primary classroom.

This course is very practical, with guaranteed school placements in Lancashire where students will spend four out of five days a week in the classroom, working with teachers and pupils, receiving intensive mentoring and training.

Rob Horne, head of YSTA, said: “This year our open events are taking place via zoom, but we are able to give potential students a real idea of what we do, see a typical Yarrow Member School and meet the YSTA Team who would be training you to teach.”

“Our employment record after training with YSTA is incredibly high.”

After a turbulent year there are many people looking to change career, and previous student cohorts have included former police officers, paralegals, teaching assistants and lecturers. In fact, many graduates already have the transferable life skills and work experience which would make them superb candidates.

Some of the Associate Teachers are recent graduates, but others are looking for a change in direction in their 30s and 40s, and bring valuable experience to the role.

Rob added: “The qualities we look for in applicants is that they are hardworking – they really take pride in whatever job they currently have – and that they are passionate, enthusiastic and determined. We want people with a positive attitude, who are also very caring, and committed to entering the teaching profession and making an immediate positive impact on the lives of children.”

The classroom-based training takes place in and around the Chorley area. Trainees are placed in two contrasting, long-term placements in YSTA Member Schools. All of our 32 schools are committed to this route into teaching and are incredibly supportive of the trainees they welcome into their schools. As an associate teacher you will be a valued member of the school’s team, earning valuable, practical experience four days a week, with one day a week spent on theory-based training, essential for delivering outstanding teaching and learning experiences for children.

“On successful completion of your year’s training, you will not simply be in possession of the essential paper qualification (Qualified Teacher Status) but be classroom ready and classroom confident – ready to take your first steps in a career that will bring reward and challenge in equal measure,” added Rob.

The full-time course is recruiting now for its next intake (September 2021), and your new career could be waiting for you.
