A letter sent to parents and carers at the Carr Lane school said a child in the year group had received a positive Covid-19 test result.

Head teacher Matt Klinck spoke to Public Health England and it was initially decided that all of year eight should remain at home while the track and trace process was carried out.

The school then confirmed the year group will be self-isolating until September 26.

Pupils in all other year groups at Hawkley have been told to come in for lessons as usual.

Mr Klinck said: "This morning we have completed the track and trace procedure working in partnership with Public Health England.

"The decision has been made, in conjunction with Public Health colleagues, that all year eight students must now stay at home and self-isolate until September 26 as they are deemed to be a potential close contact of a confirmed case.

"Please note that this is a precautionary measure. We are asking families to do this in order to reduce the further spread of Covid-19 to others in the community.

"All students will revert to live online learning with effect from Thursday September 17.

"Students in other year groups will continue to attend school as normal.”
