Coronavirus: Wigan wedding venue postpones weddings for 12 weeks to help fight Covid-19

Award-winning Wigan wedding venue Ashfield House has made the tough decision to postpone its wedding ceremonies for 12 weeks in a bid to combat the Covid-19 outbreak.

The family-run Standish business, which has been crowned the best wedding venue in the country multiple times, released a statement online saying it had made the decision "with a heavy heart" in order to help stop the disease spreading.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the venue said: "Right now our world is facing great sadness as the Coronavirus threatens the lives of those we love.

"In order to help stop the spread of this disease we have, with a heavy heart, postponed our weddings for the next twelve weeks.

"In the bible, Ecclesiastes famously states there is a time for everything.

"A time to weep and a time to laugh.

"A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.

"A time to gain and a time to lose.

"The losses, disappointments and heartbreaks of celebrations postponed is little compared with the prospect of defeating Coronavirus.

"Our hearts go out to everyone suffering and sacrificing.

"Our gratitude goes out to everyone playing their part."
