More than half a million people in Greater Manchester have had first doses of Covid-19 vaccine

The latest figures from NHS England, shared by the JPIMedia Data Unit, showed 531,822 people had been given their first dose of a vaccine in the city-region as of February 7.

Of those 105,696 were over 80.

That means that 89.6 per cent of that priority cohort had received their first dose.

However, some people who were booked in during the first few weeks of the roll-out late last year also got a second dose before the advice to health bodies changed.

In Greater Manchester 24,438 people, including 15,319 over-80s, have had both doses.

That means 13 per cent of the city-region's residents aged 80 or over have full protection against the novel coronavirus.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh (WWL) Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust celebrated a milestone this week as it reached 10,000 vaccines given to health and social care workers.

As of February 7 the North West had given a first dose to 1,437,750 people, including 316,885 over-80s.

That means just over a quarter of the region's population, and 91.6 per cent of over-80s, have received a first dose.
