Lilian Goulding, from Standish, has seen the country endure dark times before and is certain Brits will come through the adversity of the Covid-19 crisis.

The 91-year-old put her confidence into writing, with a poem called A No Win, which metaphorically speaks directly to the virus itself with a message of

resolve.

Lilian said: “We are fighting back.

“We are going to win, because we did these things in the wars.

“I was alive to see what we did then, and I still have a ration book!

“If we don’t behave ourselves, we might need them again!”

She added: “[The poem] is telling the bug that we won’t stand for this.”

A No Win

Do you think that you will win the war you have dragged us in?

Invisible coward, a disgrace

Come on, man up and show your face

You know you are doing wrong

So go get back to where you belong

We have faced much worse than you

Not long ago in World War Two

And also faced it now long gone

In the famous World War One

When Brits are backed up to the wall

It is certain that you’re going to fall

So enemy, do not estimate

That this is not gonna be your fate

So listen up, you wanna bet?

Because you ain’t seen nothing yet
